The Epiphany O come let us adore Him!

1/5/25

“We have seen his star in the east, and have come with gifts to adore the Lord.” Matthew 2:2

The story of the Magi traveling from the East to see the Christ child appears only in the Gospel according to Saint Matthew. Today we celebrate the Feast Day of the Epiphany.

“And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the Child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the Child with Mary, His Mother. They prostrated themselves and did Him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:9-11

When the Magi saw the Child with His Mother, they rejoiced and bowed down and worshipped Him. Meditate on this Scripture and choose a word or phrase that touches your heart... behold, star, overjoyed, Child with Mary, prostrated, homage, treasures, gifts. Ponder the word or phrase and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you.

The Magi saw Love, Truth, Peace and Mercy when they gazed at the Child. After they saw Him, they were changed and they returned a different way. Every time we have an encounter with Jesus, we are changed forever and we can never go back the old way.

As we ponder the Epiphany, let us make our journey to the Baby Jesus with the Magi. Follow the star. As you come before the Child, open your heart to Him and invite Him in. What gifts can you give the Baby Jesus? Jesus desires to shine His Light upon you. He is calling you to an intimate encounter with Him. He will change you forever. When that happens, you can never go back to your old ways.

God has called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Help us to follow that light, just as the Wise Men followed the Star. Help us to turn to Jesus, the newborn King. O Come let us adore Him.
